Suspect identified in shooting outside Elkhart bank

ELKHART, Ind. (WNDU) – Police have identified a suspect in last week’s shooting outside a bank in Elkhart.

Over the weekend, an Elkhart County court judge found probable cause to arrest 38-year-old Brett Harris for aggravated battery. His bail was set at $300,000.

Police say the shooting happened last Thursday afternoon outside the 1st Source Bank in the 2000 block of E. Bristol Street. When officers arrived, they found a 40-year-old man with multiple gunshot wounds in the parking lot.

The man was taken to hospital with serious injuries. After the last check, the police informed us that he was still in hospital, but his condition was making progress.

No injuries were reported among people inside the bank.

Police say the case has been forwarded to the Elkhart County Prosecutor’s Office to review formal criminal charges.
