New details in fatal choking incident involving Naples student

NAPLES, Fla. – FOX 4 obtained an incident report detailing a choking incident at Laurel Oaks Elementary School that occurred on Oct. 17 – told from the perspective of the on-duty youth relations deputy.

The deputy says she was called to the cafeteria in response to a medical emergency.

According to her testimony, when she got to the cafeteria, she found a student lying motionless.

The nurse’s assistant was seen with a Life Vac in her hand and frantically stating, “It’s not working.”

The deputy called an ambulance and claims she performed the Heimlich maneuver; however, the student was unconscious and not breathing.

An AED was retrieved, the principal was notified, and several staff members assisted with chest compressions.

The emergency medical team arrived at the scene and took over emergency care.

The student was taken to NCH-North for further treatment.
