A driver died in a crash after hitting a deer in Marlboro County

MARLBORO COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash in Marlboro County.

Officers were called just after 8 a.m. Saturday to Carrolton Avenue near Highway 9, near Bennettsville, in reference to a single-car crash.

LCpl. Lena Butler of the South Carolina Highway Patrol said the driver was on Carrolton Avenue when the car hit a deer, then went off the road and hit a ditch.

Butler said only the driver was in the car and he died at the scene.

The coroner’s office has not released the driver’s name.
