A criminal arrested after an officer-involved shooting in Orlando will remain in jail

New details have emerged about Cliff Francois, the felon arrested after an officer-involved shooting in downtown Orlando on Sunday evening.

Francois appeared before a judge Monday afternoon and will remain in jail.

Orlando police say Francois, who was already out on bond for a previous arrest in July, tried to flee from officers on Sunday. According to Orlando police, he drove away, struck another vehicle and then drove toward the officer, who fired a shot. Francois was arrested on multiple charges.

Investigators revealed that Francois was out on bail following a previous incident in which he allegedly fled from police almost three months ago. State’s Attorney Andrew Bain addressed concerns about why a convicted felon was granted bond in the first case.

“We need to deal with people who repeatedly harm our community,” Bain said. “We cannot function as a safe and prosperous society if people continually put others at risk.”

Francois’ bail has since been revoked.
