JMU announces unified NIL program ‘Honors1’

HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) – In an effort to increase name, image and likeness (NIL) opportunities for its student-athletes, James Madison’s athletics department has announced the introduction of the “Honors1” program.

“The Honors1 program is an essential part of our ascent to ensuring James Madison Athletics is a thriving program in the ever-expanding college athletics landscape,” JMU Director of Athletics Matt Roan said in a news release. “The comprehensive nature of this program truly allows our student-athletes to maximize their overall experience and potential at James Madison University, and in particular the value of their name, image and likeness.”

JMU says the program aims to standardize and streamline NIL opportunities for JMU student-athletes by connecting them with key stakeholders such as companies and organizations.

The name “Honors1” is inspired by the line from JMU’s Fight Song, “Fight for Glory, Honors Won,” symbolizing a commitment to recognizing and honoring student-athletes.

Key elements of the program include launch Dukes JMU trade. This will help connect student-athletes directly with companies for NIL offers. It is designed to facilitate transactions, communications and legal contracts.

The program will expand the school’s cooperation with the Montpelier collective. an organization that helps provide NIL opportunities for JMU athletes by promoting charitable initiatives.
