The sheriff’s office said deputies rescued a struggling dog from a Florida canal.

“Just throw me out,” Flagler County Deputy Alex Wolfe said as other deputies pushed his kayak into the water.

According to an Oct. 29 Facebook post, the sheriff’s office received a call about a dog that appeared to be “in distress” in a Palm Coast canal.

The sheriff’s office said when authorities arrived, they found a neighbor in a kayak trying to save the dog.

But the neighbor didn’t make it, so Wolfe borrowed a kayak to give the rescue mission another chance. Body camera footage shows him approaching the dog in a kayak, then jumping into the water, picking up the dog and carrying it safely back to shore.

– Yes, he has a training collar. Someone is looking for him,” one deputy said once the dog was on land.

The sheriff’s office said after being rescued, the dog was turned over to Animal Control and later returned to its owner.

More than 200 people commented on the rescue video, with many praising Wolfe for his heroism.

“It was a great save!!! “Deputy Wolfe didn’t even hesitate,” one person commented.

“Who knows how long that poor baby was out there struggling and I thank the universe there were no alligators out there,” another person said. “This officer is a hero without a cape!”
