Former MLB All-Star Francisco Cordero robbed at gunpoint in Dominican Republic: reports

Former M.L.B Francisco Cordero was reportedly robbed at gunpoint outside a grocery store in the Dominican Republic last week in what he believes was a targeted attack.

According to El Nuevo Diario, an incident captured on surveillance video shows the moment the 49-year-old former pitcher was robbed of what appeared to be a chain as he sat with others gathered at a table outside a convenience store.

Material shared further social mediashows two masked people riding a motorcycle to a store.

One of the suspects gets off his motorcycle and immediately lunges at Cordero with a gun pointed at him. Cordero can be seen raising his hands as the masked thief grabs the chain from around his neck.

The suspect returns to the motorcycle, but not before getting on another bike while trying to escape.

Cordero told an N Digital representative in the Dominican Republic that he did not believe the attack was random.

“It doesn’t appear to have been a random attack because the attacker jumped off his motorcycle, grabbed a gun and walked straight up to me, took off my chain and rode away,” he said, as translated by the New York Post.

“He didn’t take the money I had in my pocket or my cell phone, nor did he approach anyone else.”

Cordero added that he could not identify the suspects because of their masks. The report shows that the attack took place near ul American Embassy.
