Marine recruiter arrested for sexual assault of minor in Sunnyvale

SUNNYVALE, CA. – An active-duty Marine Corps recruiter was arrested for sexually assaulting a minor at a recruiting center, Sunny valley police say.

Police say the adult suspect, Jorge Lara-Pedroza, met the 17-year-old victim last week at a recruiting event at her school.

On October 28, the victim met with the suspect at a recruiting center to learn more about the Marine Corps. The police claim that it was during this meeting that the girl suffered sexual violence.

The police learned about the sexual assault on October 29. The suspect was arrested and booked into the Santa Clara County Jail for oral copulation, penetration with a foreign object and arranging to meet a minor with the intent to engage in sexual activity.

Police said the case is still under investigation.
