A Houston ISD coach identified as “King” and an assistant principal charged with fraud have been released from jail

HOUSTON – Two of three Houston ISD employees charged in connection with teacher-A certification fraud scheme that allowed unqualified teachers to work in local school districts has been released from prison.

Vincent Grayson, 57, head boys basketball coach at Booker T. Washington High School, was identified as: “royal tenon” in the diagram. He was released on $150,000 bail.

LaShonda Roberts, 39, assistant principal at Yates High School in Houston ISDhe was also released on $50,000 bail.

Nicholas Newton, 35, assistant principal at Booker T. Washington High School in Houston ISDHe remains jailed on $100,000 bail.

The other two defendants in this scheme, Tywana Gilford Mason, 51, former VA director/certifying officer at the Houston Training and Education Center, and Darian Nikole Wilhite, 22, vice chancellor at TACTIX, have not been arrested.

This is Houston ISD three employees charged in connection with the scheme were immediately dismissed from service.

The alleged scheme, reportedly worth more than $1 million, involved falsifying credentialing documents to provide teaching positions to people who did not meet certification requirements, according to the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.

Court documents show that an estimated 430 tests were administered fraudulently and that the program certified more than 210 unqualified teachers who currently perform or practice in Texas public schools and counties throughout the state.

The scandal is believed to have affected many school districts in the area and across the state, causing increased concerns about educational standards and public safety.
