Warren Police Department sued by innocent bystander injured in fiery crash

WARREN, MI.Warren Police chasing a car through a neighborhood at high speed injured a woman who wasn’t involved, and now she’s suing the department.

The incident occurred in June 2024 when police spotted a Dodge Charger without a license plate and the driver accelerated.

After leading police through a busy residential area, the suspect turned onto some major roads, leading to the fiery crash.

The person police pulled from the burning car was Brittny Turner, who is filing a lawsuit, but Warren police are pushing back.

Warren police determined that one person was responsible for Turner’s hit and injury, and that was the man they were chasing.

“I can’t say the words I want to say on camera,” Turner said. “I think this statement is bullshit.”

Turner’s body was mangled, including broken bones and burns, when she was struck by a driver fleeing from Warren police on a high-speed pursuit in June of this year.

“The Warren Police Department and every officer who detained this young man are held accountable,” Turner said.

Turner is suing Warren police for $60 million.

“A bad guy hits an innocent driver and yet we get blamed,” said Warren Police Lt. John Gajewski. “Are you kidding me? Are you kidding me?”

On Wednesday (October 30), Warren police responded, telling Cell 4 that their department has conducted approximately 250 chases this year.

Police showed cruiser camera footage of the incident in which Turner was struck.

“There is one person responsible for this incident and any injuries Ms. Turner suffered, and that is defendant Keith Jones, who has pleaded guilty,” Gajewski said. “Defendant who made conscious decision to flee from Warren police.”

Police conducted a traffic stop on Jones’ Charger for missing a license plate; the chase went through neighborhoods and ended at 8 Mile Road and Mound, with Jones hitting Turner.

Warren police said they are doing the job residents expect of them.

“When you do a job, you do it within your capabilities,” Turner said. “And then do your job safely first.”
