The Out of the Darkness March for suicide prevention will take place this weekend

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – A local group from The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention organizes its annual Out of the darkness.

It will take place on Sunday, November 3 at the Episcopal Church of St. Jacob. The event aims to raise awareness of public health issues.

“Suicide doesn’t affect anyone, no age group, no racial group, no socioeconomic group. It affects everyone and there is not a single person who would recall suicide,” says Leila Garriss, organizer of the event.

Every year they move the event to different areas of New Hanover County, but this year they’re holding it downtown in hopes of drawing more traffic.

You can expect health resources, a mental health therapist, food and games. Organizers say they are still looking for volunteers.
