NYPD: A 44-year-old woman died in a pedestrian accident in New Dorp, Staten Island

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – A 44-year-old woman died Wednesday evening after being hit by a car as she walked through a busy intersection in New Dorp.

According to a spokeswoman for the NYPD’s deputy commissioner of public information, police responded around 10:28 p.m. to a pedestrian struck at the intersection of Hylan Boulevard and New Dorp Lane.

According to a preliminary investigation by the NYPD Highway District Collision Investigation Team, a 44-year-old woman was walking eastbound on Hylan Street in the left lane of Hylan Boulevard westbound when she was struck by a 2012 Nissan Maxima traveling westbound on Hylan Street .

Emergency medical services arrived on scene and transported the 44-year-old woman to Staten Island University Hospital in Ocean Breeze, where she died, a police spokeswoman said.

A police spokeswoman said the 18-year-old man driving the Nissan remained at the scene.

No arrests have been made and the investigation continues, a police spokeswoman added.
