New York State Police say a mother intentionally went to Niagara Falls with her two children

Niagara Falls, New York – Search and rescue operations were underway, according to New York State Police, which on Wednesday said a 33-year-old mother climbed over a safety barrier and intentionally crossed Niagara Falls with her two children, a 9-year-old and a 5-month-old. rescue efforts failed.

Authorities arrived at the park around 9 p.m. Monday and determined that the family had crossed the barrier on Luna Island, a small island between American Falls and Bridal Veil Falls that, along with Horseshoe Falls, is a popular tourist attraction.

“The investigation determined that this incident was intentional, although the circumstances remain under investigation,” state police said in a news release.

Authorities are using unmanned aerial vehicles and underwater craft in the investigation.
