In a new interview, Stevie Nicks says she worked with ex Lindsey Buckingham “as long as she could.”

Stevie Nicks says she and her ex Lindsey Buckingham will no longer be making music any time soon.

Nicks opened up Rolling Stone about her tense encounter with Buckingham at a celebration of her former Fleetwood Mac bandmate’s life Christine McVieWho died in 2022 at the age of 79.

“The only time I spoke to Lindsey was there, for about three minutes,” Nicks, 76, told the publication. “I dealt with Lindsey as long as I could. You can’t say I didn’t give him more than 300 million chances.”

Nicks and Buckingham, 75, one of pop music’s most tumultuous ex-couples, split during the recording of Fleetwood Mac’s breakthrough 1977 album “Rumours.” Result? Incredibly catchy breakup songs – such as “Dreams”, written by Nicks and “Go Your Own Way”, written by Buckingham – that became hits.

Nicks and Buckingham sang about their breakup on Fleetwood Mac’s breakthrough album “Rumours.”

The former partners continued their collaboration in Fleetwood Mac, and their adventurous dynamic often created drama, as evidenced by: viral video from TikTok shows Nicks staring at Buckingham while performing the haunting “Silver Springs” at a 1997 concert.

“You’ll never escape the voice of the woman who loves you,” Nicks sings, staring at Buckingham before shouting, “You’ll never escape, you’ll never escape!”

A couple too he traded jabs in media interviews over the years.

After a final backstage altercation with Buckingham during the 2018 MusicCares charity concert honoring Fleetwood Mac, Buckingham was fired from the band, Los Angeles Times previously reported.

Does Nicks regret not throwing in the towel sooner?

“No, I think everything happened as it should have. It happened one evening, unplanned, at MusiCares. I didn’t even tell anyone that it happened in my head until the whole ceremony was over,” she said. Rolling Stone. “That night I took with me a song called “Borrowed,” which I wrote with LeAnn Rimes. I took her with me to play for (Buckingham) because I thought we could perform this song beautifully.

“That was when he wasn’t very nice to anyone; he wasn’t very nice to Harry Styles,” she said, noting that Styles, whom she is with I sang Fleetwood Mac’s hit “Landslide” as a duet, he also performed at the concert.

“I heard my mom say, ‘Are you really going to spend the next 15 years of your life with this man?'” Nicks continued. “I heard my very pragmatic father – and by the way, my mom and dad really liked Lindsey – say, ‘It’s time for you two to get a divorce.’ Between those two I said, “I’m done.”

TODAY.com has reached out to Buckingham for comment on Nicks’ interview with Rolling Stone.

Nicks stated that she was not interested in reuniting with Buckingham during Fleetwood Mac’s farewell tour.

“When Christine died, Fleetwood Mac died,” she explained. Although she wished “the best” for her ex who in 2019 he suffered a heart attack.

“I hope he lives a long life and continues to go to the studio and work with other people,” she said. “He is also an icon and can teach people. He doesn’t stop at his songs. He can still make music and have fun.”

When Rolling Stone noticed that Nicks had become a bigger musical icon than Buckingham, Nicks replied, “Well, that was one of the problems, wasn’t it?”
