Seventh-grade boy detained after Tri-State school closed

MIDDLETOWN, Ohio (WXIX) – A school district in Butler County was placed on immediate lockdown after receiving threats Friday.

According to the Butler County Sheriff’s Office, a Madison Local School District employee received a voicemail from an unknown entity at 7:36 a.m. The subject threatened to “shoot up the school.”

District officials closed schools and notified law enforcement.

The seventh-grade boy was detained and is being questioned by detectives, Sgt. Butler County Sheriff. – said Kim Peters.

District officials say all students are safe and classes are canceled for the rest of the day.

Primary school buses take students home and parents on the pick-up route will also need to take their children home.

At 10:00 a.m., middle and high school students will be taken home by bus. Student drivers will also be furloughed.

The sheriff’s office did not release the name of the arrestee.
