Stolen vehicle found submerged 5 feet in Ross Barnett Reservoir

RANKIN COUNTY, Miss. (WLBT) – An allegedly stolen vehicle was found submerged in the Ross Barnett Reservoir.

According to the Rankin County Sheriff’s Office, investigators responded to the scene near the Lake Harbor Road boat ramp on Thursday around 1 p.m., after Reservoir Police discovered the car.

Reservoir Fire Department divers were able to locate the car, a black 2008 Ford Mustang, about 5 feet underwater and about 50 feet from the road.

Further investigation of the vehicle revealed that Richland Police officers had reported it as stolen in 2009.

The Rankin County Sheriff’s Office is assisting Reservoir Police and Richland Police in the investigation.
