Fatal accident in Milwaukee; Martinez Williams sentenced to 10 years in prison

Martinez Williams; Crash 5th and Keefe, Milwaukee

AND Milwaukee County on Thursday, October 24, a judge sentenced Martinez Williams to ten years in prison plus an additional five years of extended supervision in connection with an accident in which a teenager was killed and several other people were injured in June 2023.

In August, Williams pleaded guilty to a charge of second-degree reckless homicide. Three other charges against him were dismissed but read into the court record for sentencing purposes.

Case details

The crash occurred early Friday, June 30, 2023. Witnesses told police the car was speeding and swerving before the driver lost control and struck a tree near 5th and Keefe streets, damaging a nearby yard and a home, shortly after 5 p.m. in the morning

17-year-old Milwaukee the girl was thrown from the back seat and died on the spot. The medical examiner’s report identified her as Zariyah Williams.

Four passengers – another 23-year-old Milwaukee male, 18 years old Milwaukee a woman and two 16-year-olds Milwaukee girls – were also injured. The man was treated at the scene and the other three were taken to hospital.

The Williams driver fled but later returned. He was taken to hospital for treatment and placed in custody.
