A Hounsdown schoolgirl in a serious condition after a crash in Hythe

Veal said the school was informed that one of its students had been in an accident.

He said students had been spoken to and offered support, and parents and carers had been contacted to “ensure they can continue to care for any young person who is worried or upset by this news”.

Veal added: “The thoughts and prayers of the entire school community are with the young person, their family and friends at this time.

“As their principal, I would like to thank students, staff, parents and guardians for their kindness and sensitivity during this difficult time.”

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Police are appealing for any witnesses to come forward and assist with the investigation.

A spokesman for the force said: “The girl was taken to hospital where her condition is serious.

“The car involved stopped at the scene and the driver is assisting us with inquiries.”
