Joseph Cavanaugh, alleged organizer of chaotic drive-in meetings in Philadelphia, arrested in Levittown, Bucks County

LEVITTOWN, Pennsylvania (WPVI) — A man who police say helped organize and promote illegal activities car meets in Philadelphia last monthwhich quickly descended into chaos, she was arrested.

Action News was on the scene when 21-year-old Joseph Cavanaugh was arrested at his home in Levittown, Pennsylvania, on Friday morning.

The encounters drew hundreds of people to the city, leading to reckless driving and other dangerous behavior on the night of September 21-22. One police officer was injured.

“This is today’s arrest. He is very much the director of the organization when it comes to planning the event,” said Lt. Dennis Rosenbaum of the Philadelphia Police Department. “It was a month-long investigation that resulted in several more arrests.” come.”

Another man, 20-year-old James Hare of Philadelphia, was also arrested Friday for his role in the mayhem.

Hundreds of people and vehicles gathered for more than a dozen car meets that resulted in thousands of dollars in damage and the injury of a police officer.

The meetings spanned the entire city, from Northeast Philadelphia to South Philadelphia, and culminated in over 100 vehicles at City Hall.

Two weeks ago, police arrested 18-year-old Shane Thomas in Plymouth Township. Police say Thomas was the person seen in the video at a party wearing a banana costume.

Thomas allegedly committed a number of crimes, including damaging at least one police vehicle.

At least four other arrests have been made. One of the suspects is accused of speeding his Dodge Charger towards the two officers.
