Surveillance video of a typical morning at a high school in Akron, Ohio captured a disturbing event between a school support director and a student, resulting in serious consequences for both parties.

On Monday (October 21), Akron Public Schools released video of last week’s incident, which shows a 16-year-old Firestone High School student get through security before being asked to go through the metal detector again.

The district’s report shows the student tried to avoid the medal detectors by charging through school security officers. Video footage shows the teen returned through the detector, but the officer ordered him back again… but this time by placing his hands on the teen’s shoulders and pushing him away.

However, the video footage shows that the teenager turned around and attacked the security officer. Another officer then grabbed the teenager, assisting the other in trying to keep him on the ground. The two officers then pulled the teenager back to his feet and led him down the hall with his hands behind his back.

Suddenly, one officer is visible in the recording hitting the teenager repeatedly in the headtaking all three back to earth. No audio was included with the video to confirm what words, if any, were exchanged.

At a press conference, Akron Mayor Shammas Malik said that no weapon was found on the student, only a cell phone, which set off metal detectors. Per school district policy, students are not permitted to bring phones to school and must keep them in a case provided by staff.

As a result of the incident, the student was charged with resisting arrest, obstructing the performance of official duties and illegally entering school grounds, per NBC News. The mayor said at a news conference after speaking with the Summit County prosecutor’s office that the charges would be dismissed without prejudice.

According to the report, in the meantime, the officer in question was placed on administrative duties in connection with an investigation into his use of force. On the other hand, the teenager plans to seek justice by hiring a law firm to represent the family of Jayland Walker, a young black man who was killed by Akron police in a hail of over 90 bullets.

“He is a child. “No child deserves to be punched in the face by an adult, especially if that adult is an Akron Police Officer,” attorney Bobby DiCello said via NBC.
