Woman charged with murder after pleading guilty to fatal 2018 crash

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – A woman was arrested Friday after pleading guilty last year to a fatal crash that occurred in 2018, according to Metro Nashville police.

Kara Vaughn, 32, told police she was supposed to pick up 34-year-old Markeith Bass but instead hit him with the vehicle in anger. Police say she was under the influence of alcohol and driving a stolen SUV when she hit him.

The accident occurred on Trinity Lane near Brick Church Pike in September 2018.

Vaughn has been in prison since 2022 on unrelated charges, but she admitted to a DCSO corporal that she hit Bass with her car in February 2023 to “clear her conscience.”

Police said Vaughn was charged with second-degree murder Friday morning.
