Former Virginia Tech standout Christian Darrisaw will need season-ending knee surgery

Former Virginia Tech standout Christian Darrisaw will need season-ending knee surgery

According to Friday’s reports, Vikings left tackle Christian Darrisaw will likely have to miss the rest of the season due to a knee injury suffered in Thursday’s game against the Los Angeles Rams.

Darrisaw, who was occupying his starting spot on the left wing, was tackled by Rams safety Jaylen McCollough, causing Darrisaw to fall to the ground in pain. Vikings doctors attended to him until he was taken directly to the locker room with their help.

In his absence, the Vikings played David Quessenberry on the left wing until the end of the match. Head coach Kevin O’Connell commented on Darrisaw’s injury after the game.

“Christian Darrisaw actually injured his left knee,” O’Connell said. “But we will continue that assessment here and tomorrow and then try to confirm what it is. (We) keep our fingers crossed for positive news.”

As Adam Schefter reported today, the injury doesn’t look good for Darrisaw, as he will need season-ending surgery on his left knee.

After being drafted out of Virginia Tech by the Minnesota Vikings, Darrisaw became a cornerstone of the Vikings’ offensive line.

He received massextension of the contract offseason that will last four years and be worth up to $113 million, including $77 million guaranteed.

Darrisaw was the 23rd overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. The Vikings exercised a fifth-year option on his contract this offseason, but have now extended it.

Next year, with Darrisaw expected to return, Viking will likely continue to build the team around its young tackle and hope to compete for the NFC North.
