2 students injured in collision between bus 179 and NTU shuttle bus on campus – Mothership.SG

Two students were taken to hospital after a campus shuttle bus collided with a route 179 bus at the Lee Wee Nam Library bus stop at Nanyang Technological University (NTU).

In response to inquiries from MothershipPolice and the Singapore Civil Defense Force (SCDF) said they were alerted to the incident on Nanyang Drive on October 22 at around 10.15am.

Photos of the crash showed a large hole in the side of the Red Campus Rider near North Spine.

One of the bus’s rear-view mirrors fell onto the road.

Another photo posted on Chinese social media platform Xiaohongshu shows the floor of the bus littered with shards of broken glass.

A student of Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information, who wished to remain anonymous, was on the bus when the accident occurred.

Most of the students had just gotten off at the Lee Wee Nam Library bus stop, so the bus had about half its original passenger capacity when it left, the student said.

“When the red bus was about to leave, it collided with bus 179,” she added.

“I heard a scream as the glass shattered, but most of them were pretty calm, and then we all just landed.”

Another student, Cheryl Tan, was on a different bus but got off at the same stophe said Mothership that she saw police and ambulance on site.

She saw police emptying the contents of the bag over a garbage can.

The two students, both in their 20s, were transported conscious to Ng Teng Fong Hospital.

A 67-year-old bus driver is assisting in the investigation.

Police investigations are ongoing.

NTU and SMRT lifts

In response to inquiries from MothershipSMRT Buses deputy managing director Vincent Gay said no injuries had been reported to passengers on the 179 bus.

He said bus number 179 was stationary when the NTU bus collided with it.

He added that all 30 passengers were safely transferred to another bus and were able to continue their journey.

An NTU spokesman said the school was in contact with the injured students, who are receiving outpatient treatment.

The spokesman said that the matter had also been reported to the traffic police.
