At least six people, including four policemen, were killed and several others injured in a suicide bombing in North Waziristan, officials confirmed to Geo News on Saturday, marking the latest deadly attack on law enforcement.

After the rescue operation began, the injured were taken to hospital. Meanwhile, the area was cordoned off by security personnel.

Law enforcement officials said the target of the attack was a police station in the Eidak district of Mir Ali. He added that four of the murdered people were police officers.

Since the Taliban returned to power in Afghanistan in 2021, Pakistan has experienced a sharp increase in terrorism. Most terrorist incidents are reported in the provinces bordering the neighboring country – Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.

About a dozen militants were eliminated this month during counter-terrorism operations by security forces in KP’s North Waziristan District, as the military seeks to deal with the menace of terrorism in the country.

A report released earlier this month by the Center for Research and Security Studies (CRSS) said there was a sharp increase in the number of deaths from terrorist violence and counter-terrorism campaigns in the third quarter of 2024, with a 90% increase in violence in the country.

The total number of fatalities in the three quarters of this year exceeded the total number of fatalities recorded in all of 2023, with 722 fatalities, including civilians, security personnel and bandits.

Nearly 97% of these fatalities occurred in KP and Balochistan, the highest percentage in a decade.
