Five people have been injured in a terrifying gas explosion at a popular Australian campsite

Five people have been injured in a terrifying gas explosion at a popular campsite in South Australia.

Emergency services were called to a campsite at Myponga in Adelaide’s south on Saturday just after 4.20pm to reports of a gas cylinder exploding.

An SA Ambulance spokeswoman said a man and a woman, both aged 25, were airlifted to hospital with burns to their faces.

Three others were taken by road to hospital, one with burns to his back and two with burns to his legs.

Myponga is a picturesque part of South Australia, popular with locals and visitors for walking, fishing and kayaking.

Visitors also often visit Myponga Beach, located just 15 minutes from Myponga Reservoir.

About 750 people live in the area, which is about an hour’s drive from Adelaide.
