An 80-year-old woman has died following a fire in Ogun

An 80-year-old woman identified as Mariam Salako has been confirmed dead following a fire that occurred in Ifelodun Agoka area of ​​Abeokuta.

The spokesman of the Ogun State Police Command, Omolola Odutola, said the fire broke out at about 1am on Saturday.

Odutola noted that although the woman living in the building died, community members rescued Baba Ali, whose age is yet to be ascertained, through a window.

She noted that the cause of the fire was not yet known and the quick response of the Ogun State Fire Service brought the fire under control.

She said: “At about 1am, emergency services were called to reports of a fire at a building located at 28 Ifelodun Ago Ka, Abeokuta.

The District Commander immediately led a team of policemen to the site, and the fire brigade was called for help. The Ogun State Fire Service quickly responded and managed to bring the fire under control.

“Unfortunately, an elderly woman, Mariam Salako, 80, who lived in the building, was unable to escape and died in the fire.”

Odutola stated that the remains of the deceased were deposited at the mortuary.
