Police said three or four militants were involved in the Gulmarg terror attack

NEW DELHI: Three to four militants are believed to have carried out a deadly attack on an army convoy in Jammu and Kashmir’s Gulmarg sector, which left four people dead, including two soldiers, a senior police official said on Saturday.

The search operation, which began on the second day, was suspended on Friday evening and resumed on Saturday morning, the official said.

“According to the evidence we obtained from there, 3-4 militants were involved in the attack,” Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Baramulla Mohammad Zaid Malik told reporters in North Kashmir district.

“Police, army and paramilitary forces are conducting a search operation which has been extended to Baba Reshi and forest areas in Gulmarg,” the SSP said.

The SSP said that in the days before the attack, security forces had carried out multiple search operations based on inputs against militants in the Pattan-Kreeri area of ​​Baramulla district.

Two soldiers and two army porters were killed in Thursday’s attack, while another porter and a soldier were injured.

Terrorists opened fire on a military vehicle 6 km from Gulmarg tourist spot in Bota Pathri area when it was heading towards Nagin outpost in Affarwat range.

On Friday, security forces deployed drones and helicopters for a massive search in the area and along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Gulmarg sector.

Officials say security forces also used human information and technical intelligence to aid in the search operation to track down and neutralize the terrorists behind the attack.

The operation is supervised by senior police and military officials.
