Police say a Sanford state representative is wanted for aggravated assault

Police are searching for a Maine state representative wanted in connection with an alleged aggravated assault.

Police confirmed Saturday that the Sanford Police Department has an arrest warrant for state Rep. Lucas Lanigan.

Lanigan, a Republican, represents the 141st District, which includes parts of Shapleigh, Newfield, Sanford and Springvale.

Maj. Mark Dyer said the alleged attack was “family related.” The investigation is still ongoing, he added.

Lanigan was elected to the House of Representatives in 2022 and is running for re-election in November, defeating Democrat Patricia Kidder. He lives in the Springfield neighborhood of Sanford.
