Self-employed rugby player Rhyl was left without an income following an injury

Bishop will face months of treatment and a long recovery period before he can return to work, but the club is raising money to cover some of his costs.

“The positive I want to take from this is that I will try to highlight how important it is for other players in Wales and also hopefully spread the word and encourage people not to make the same mistake I did.” he said.

The father of two was told he could expect to lose all side-to-side flexibility in his foot, even after recovery.

“The first thing I said was, ‘I just went self-employed. How am I supposed to go to work on Monday with a foot like that?».

“We are very dependent on my salary and my income, so it has had a huge impact on that side of things.

“I just invested our savings in this business, so if I hadn’t invested them, we would have had some money to keep us afloat for the next three months.”

When he was injured, Bishop played just 10 minutes to help the growing team.

He was scheduled to meet with an insurance agent the following Tuesday to arrange a policy before the next actual match the following week.
