Chicago shooting: Suspect injured in officer-involved shooting in West Rogers Park fired shots at first responders, police say

CHICAGO (WLS) — The Chicago Police Department and the Civilian Office of Police Accountability are investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred Saturday morning on the city’s North Side.

Police said that upon arriving at the scene of the earlier shooting, officers exchanged gunfire with the armed suspect.

The Chicago Police Department provided an update on the incident during a Saturday afternoon news conference.

The Chicago Police Department provided an update Saturday on the officer-involved shooting in West Rogers Park.

Chicago police said the 39-year-old victim was shot around 9:35 a.m. while walking in the 2600 block of North Farwell Avenue in West Rogers Park. The armed perpetrator approached the victim from behind and shot him in the shoulder.

Chicago police officers and paramedics from the Chicago Fire Department arrived at the scene of the shooting. According to police, around 9:55 a.m., the suspect emerged from an alley and fired shots at officers and paramedics.

Chicago police said the suspect continued to exchange gunfire with officers for about two minutes.

Police said the suspect was shot multiple times by officers at 6800 North Washtenaw. The officers provided assistance and the perpetrators were taken to a local hospital, where their condition was initially described as critical.

Police said the 39-year-old victim was treated for a gunshot wound and released.

The gender and identities of the victim and shooting suspect were not immediately known.

According to CPD, no police officers or CFD members were injured in the incident.

Further information was not immediately available. CPD and COPA continue to investigate.
