Gun and ammunition recovered at Elsie Allen High School in Santa Rosa, October 24, 2024

Holy Rose Police said they arrested an Elsie Allen High School student after he was found with a gun and ammunition Thursday afternoon.

School officials said that around 1:15 p.m., the school’s principal called police about a 16-year-old boy carrying a real, unregistered 9 mm handgun.

According to police, the recovery came as administrators were investigating gang-related graffiti found on campus allegedly depicting the same student. Authorities said they were searching the student’s backpack at the time of the discovery.

When officers arrived at the scene, school authorities had already secured the weapon, police added.

Police said a loaded magazine containing 24 bullets was found on the gun.

“The Santa Rosa Police Department and Santa Rosa City Schools emphasize that weapons of any kind are strictly prohibited on school property…Keeping students safe is a collaborative effort, and the police department and school district are committed to maintaining a safe environment,” police said.

The student was booked into Santa Rosa Juvenile Hall for possession of a loaded handgun on campus, possession of an unregistered handgun and possession of a handgun by a minor.
