Monasteries inspire an exhibition by students from Newcastle and Furness

‘Supernatural’ monasteries inspired students to create a spooky photography exhibition.

Furness College students visited Furness Abbey in Barrow and Newcastle College students traveled to Lanercost Priory near Carlisle as part of an English Heritage project.

Dr Michael Carter, senior property historian at the charity, said medieval monasteries had for centuries been associated with “terrible things”.

The Revenants and Remains exhibition can be seen at Furness Abbey until the end of January.

Dr. Carter helped conduct workshops for students.

“These were the two happiest days of my 10-year career at English Heritage,” he said.

He said the final photos were “true chillers.”

“We are honored to showcase their work.”
