31-year-old man arrested on suspicion of murdering his aunt in Gombe

Jonathan James, 31, is in police custody on suspicion of stabbing his 65-year-old aunt Ramatu Musa in Gombe State.

According to reports, the incident occurred in the early morning hours of October 21, 2024, at Bagadaza Quarters, Gombe.

According to a statement by the spokesman of the Gombe State Police Command, ASP Buhari Abdullahi, the distress call was received at 2:15 a.m., prompting a quick response by the Pantami Division patrol team led by ASP Girema Yahaya.

“Unfortunately, the victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead on arrival at Gombe Specialist Hospital,” Abdullahi said.

Abdullahi also confirmed that police arrested Jonathan James at the scene and recovered the weapon used in the crime.

Authorities have not yet determined a motive for the attack, but assured the public that the investigation is being conducted urgently.

“The police are taking this matter very seriously and the suspect will be charged in court soon,” Abdullahi said, adding that he would seek justice for the tragic incident.
