Shootings in Chicago this weekend: At least 11 shots, including 2 fatalities, result in shootings across the city, police say

The Chicago Police Department and the Civilian Office of Police Accountability are investigating the case officer-involved shooting something like this happened on Saturday morning in the northern part of the city.

Police said that upon arriving at the scene of the earlier shooting, officers exchanged fire with the armed suspect.

Chicago police said the 39-year-old victim was shot around 9:35 a.m. while walking in the 2600 block of West Farwell Avenue. The armed perpetrator approached the victim from behind and shot him in the shoulder. Officers and paramedics arrived on scene and neighbors in the area immediately provided aid to the victim while the suspect fled.

According to the police, around 9:55 a.m., the 23-year-old perpetrator came out of the alley and fired shots at officers and paramedics. Chicago police said the suspect continued to exchange gunfire with officers for about two minutes.

Police said the suspect was shot multiple times by officers at 6800 North Washtenaw Avenue. Officers provided aid to the man, who was taken to a local hospital, where his condition was initially described as critical.

Police said the 39-year-old victim was treated for a gunshot wound and released. The victim’s gender and identity were not immediately known.

According to CPD, no police officers or CFD members were injured in the incident. Further information was not immediately available. CPD and COPA continue to investigate.
