The Los Angeles Dodgers were two wins away from a World Series title, but lost Shohei Ohtani to injury in their 4-2 Game 2 win over the New York Yankees on Saturday.

Teoscar Hernández and Freddie Freeman hit back-to-back home runs, and Yoshinobu Yamamoto held the Yankees to one hit for 6.1 innings before Ohtani was injured while trying to steal a base in the seventh inning.

The Dodgers got on the board first with a home run from NLCS MVP Tommy Edman in the second inning.

The Yankees immediately responded with a Juan Soto home run in the top of the third quarter.

The Dodgers responded immediately in the bottom of the inning as Hernández scored on Mookie Betts and himself with two homers.

Freeman then hit a home run of his own to give the hosts a three-run lead.

The home run was Freeman’s second in as many games after a grand slam he hit in the 10th inning of Game 1 on Friday night.

Meanwhile, Yamamoto defeated the Yankees in his World Series debut. Soto’s homer was the only hit and run he allowed in his 6.1 innings on the mound.

The Dodgers ran into trouble in the bottom of the seventh inning when Ohtani’s attempt to steal second base was unsuccessful because he appeared to suffer a shoulder injury during the game.

Like the Dodgers the night before, the Yankees loaded the bases before their final at-bat of the night. Unlike Freeman, Jose Trevino was unable to capitalize on his opportunity in the ninth over.

Mookie Betts, Hernández and Edman had multiple hits for the Dodgers, while Soto was the only batter to record more than one hit for the visitors. Yankees captain Aaron Judge was held no-hitter and struck out three times, and Carlos Rodon recorded the loss.

The Dodgers will take the series to New York 2-0, but will face questions going forward regarding Ohtani’s availability.

The World Series continues on Monday, with the Yankees returning to the Bronx for their first home game of the series. The first whistle of the third match is scheduled for 20:08
