18-year-old student of Navodaya school dies by ‘suicide’ in parliamentary Khandwa: Police | Education

The official said it was not immediately clear why the Class XII student had taken such an extreme step. He added that no suicide note was found at the scene.

An 18-year-old student of Navodaya School in Madhya Pradesh’s Khandwa district hanged herself in the bathroom of a residential facility on Thursday, a police official said.

The teenager went to take a bath around 7 a.m. at her hostel on the school premises in Pandhana town. When she did not go out for a long time, her friends knocked on the door, but there was no answer, the official said.

Her roommates then checked whether the respirator was connected and found her hanging from a piece of cloth, he said.

Teachers and students picked up the teenager and took her to hospital, where after examination, doctors declared her dead, said Dileep Dev, officer-in-charge of Pandhana police station.

The official said it was not immediately clear why the Class XII student had taken such an extreme step. He added that no suicide note was found at the scene.

The girl, who belonged to the Arts stream, belonged to Lakhanpur village. After being informed of her death, her family members reached Pandhana, the official said.

The police have registered a case and investigation is ongoing, he added.

The National Education Policy of 1986 envisaged the establishment of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas with the aim of bringing out the best rural talent. These CBSE-affiliated schools provide free full-time education to able children from classes VI to XII.
