The father of the suspect in the Apalachee high school shooting is scheduled to go on trial

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – Colin Gray, the father of a teenager suspected in the September shooting at Apalachee High School, will appear in court again on Thursday.

Colin is scheduled to be arraigned at 9 a.m., where he will hear the charges against him and make a statement. He faces 29 charges, including second-degree murder, second-degree cruelty to children, manslaughter and recklessness.

On September 4, 14-year-old Colt Gray allegedly opened fire at Apalachee High School, killing four people and sending nine others to the hospital. Those murdered were later identified as 14-year-old students Christian Angulo and Mason Schermerhorn, as well as teacher and assistant soccer coach Richard Aspinwall and math teacher Cristina Irimie.

Colin is accused of giving Colt the AR-style rifle allegedly used in the shooting and of equipping his son with other gun accessories, such as a tactical vest, a laser sight and a mask.

Colt himself faces 55 charges, including malice murder, malice murder and aggravated assault. He has he pleaded not guilty.

Colin faces the most severe charges ever brought against the parent of a minor accused of a school shooting. The only other parents charged in connection with the school shooting are those of Ethan Crumbley, who pleaded guilty to killing four students and injuring seven others at Oxford High School in Michigan.

Jennifer and James Crumbley were convicted of four counts of manslaughter and sentenced to 15 years in prison with the possibility of parole after 10 years. Prosecutors said they failed to properly secure the gun used in the shooting.

Colin appears in court after the judge who previously presided over the trial he withdrew himself. The case is now in the hands of Judge Sarah Griffie, who was appointed a superior court judge by Gov. Brian Kemp in August. according to the Barrow County Board of Commissioners.
