A Saskatchewan agricultural equipment manufacturer faces a $100,000 fine after an employee was injured on the job.

Rite Way Manufacturing Ltd. pleaded guilty on Nov. 12 in Provincial Court in Regina to one count of violating occupational health and safety regulations, according to a provincial news release issued Thursday.

Three other charges were dropped.

The breach involved subsection 13-3(1), which specifies an employer must ensure that lifting equipment, including rigging, is designed, installed and maintained so as to enable it to perform its functions safely.

The incident itself occurred on January 2, 2023 in Regina, when an employee suffered serious injuries as a result of being hit by a suspended piece of metal.

The company was assessed a fine of $71,428.57 and a surcharge of $28,571.43, for a total of $100,000.

Rite Way Manufacturing builds agricultural equipment, including rock pickers, harrows and rollers.

The company boasts two locations. Its main manufacturing facility is located in Imperial, Sask. and its headquarters is in Regina – where research, development and some production take place.
