Ludhiana: 28-year-old man dead, family claims he was murdered by ‘illegal liquor sellers’

A 28-year-old man died in Prem Nagar in Field Ganj on Thursday. The family suspects that he was beaten to death by residents of the same town. After receiving the information, a police patrol went to the spot and conducted an investigation. The police, who claimed there was no evidence that he was beaten to death, asked the civil hospital authorities to constitute a committee of three doctors to conduct an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

The deceased was identified as Suraj Kumar, 28, of Prem Nagar, Field Ganj. According to Suraj’s sister, the incident occurred due to repeated harassment from some of their relatives who are involved in the illegal alcohol trade. According to reports, Suraj refused to participate in the sale of alcohol, which led to a series of violent clashes, claiming that he was attacked because of it.

She added that Suraj went to the gurdwara around 7 am for morning prayers. “On his way back, he was attacked by the accused. When Suraj returned home, he was found bleeding profusely from his nose. He was taken to the civil hospital, where doctors diagnosed him,” she added.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Anil Bhanot said police initiated an investigation after reaching the spot. He added that the cause of death would be determined after an autopsy. According to the autopsy report, the police will take appropriate action, he said, adding that the police were conducting an investigation in the colony, but no one witnessed any riots between the deceased and his relatives.
