The mayor of Houston announced a plan to combat homelessness

Houston Mayor John Whitmire and community leaders are scheduled to develop a plan Thursday to address homelessness in the city.

Details of the mayor’s plan have not been released, but it is said to include reducing the number of people sleeping on the streets, relief efforts, housing, law enforcement and remediation of public spaces.

Representatives from the city’s Department of Housing and Community Development, the Mayor’s Office of Public Safety and Homeland Security, the Houston/Harris County Homeless Coalition, Central Houston, Inc and the Harris Center for Mental Health and IDD will be in attendance.
