Police finally identify the officer responsible for shooting dead musician Igbo-Jah

  • Enugu State Police has identified Inspector Joseph Ozonwanji as the officer who fatally shot popular Nigerian musician Chikezi Mba popularly known as Igbo-Jah

Enugu StateNigeria – The Enugu State Police Command has released the identity of the Police Inspector involved in the case fatal shooting popular Nigerian musicianChikezie Mba, popularly known as Igbo-Jah.

This report comes amid public outrage following the tragic death of Mr Mba on Friday at the Enugu Police Anti-Cult Unit.

Igbo-Jah released by officer

According to PREMIUM TIMES, the incident took place during a party on the premises of the police headquarters during which officers started firing firearms indiscriminately. Caught in the crossfire, Mr. Mba suffered multiple gunshot wounds and died from his injuries while being transported to a nearby hospital.

Police authorities initially described Mr Mba’s visit to the facility as “friendly” and claimed he was leaving the premises when Inspector Joseph Ozonwanji allegedly opened fire on him.for reasons yet to be determined.

Enugu police identify the officer

Although Ozonwanji’s name was not initially released, Enugu State Police spokesman Daniel Ndukwe, Assistant Superintendent of Police, confirmed his identity in a statement on Saturday evening.

Ndukwe added that Ozonwanji is currently in custody and assured the public that the inspector would “once the investigation was completed, he had to face the full weight of the law

The news of Mr. Mba’s death sent shockwaves through the Enugu community, prompting the Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbaha, to order an immediate investigation into the murder.

Legit.ng reported that many of the murdered artist’s fans and concerned friends took to the streets protest against his death.

Enugu: Retired police officer declared wanted

Before, Legit.ng said the Enugu State Police Command has reported the retired officer and seven other suspects wanted in connection with an alleged murderterrorism, kidnapping and other crimes in the country.

The Ndukwe State Police spokesman has revealed that 47-year-old retired police officer Uche Asogwa is wanted.
