The county park tops national cleanliness rankings

Edinburgh achieved the highest scores in the UK, with Telford’s award-winning Town Park topping the rankings in England.

LitterBins.co.uk’s conclusion came after the organization analyzed some of the UK’s most popular parks based on TripAdvisor reviews, Google reviews and overall quality score.

The study also analyzed local dissatisfaction with rubbish collection in the area to identify the cleanest parks in the UK.

Telford City Park, which attracts around 700,000 visitors each year, has a high rating of 4.6/5 on Google.

The park also scored high thanks to Telford having the lowest dissatisfaction with waste disposal score in the study – just 13/85.

Telford and Gateshead were the only ones to make the top ten – all the other parks with the most points were in the UK’s largest cities, including Edinburgh, London, Cardiff, Belfast and Birmingham.

Telford Town Park, which has held the prestigious Green Flag since 2004, is owned and managed by Telford & Wrekin Council, with support from the Friends of Telford Town Park and maintenance contractor, idverde.

There are 54 garbage bins in the 450-acre city park. In total, they are emptied over 19,000 times a year, with bins emptied daily or more frequently during peak periods.

The park has its own team of Rangers who carry out daily inspections and regularly patrol the area. Residents can inform authorities about any rubbish-related issues using the MyTelford app.

There is also an active volunteer group, Friends of Town Park, who help with works including litter collection.

Councilor Carolyn Healy, cabinet member for neighborhoods, planning and sustainability, said: “This new study is a fantastic pat on the back for everyone involved in maintaining a beautiful city park, from the visitors who use our bins so diligently to our partners in idverde who maintain the park and its waste bins so well, and the Friends volunteers whose commitment and hard work are hugely appreciated.”

Councilor Angela McClements, cabinet member for recreation, tourism, culture and the arts, added: “I am delighted that this research is shedding light on the level of satisfaction among users of our parks. It’s great to hear they’re happy with the park and great to see Telford punching above their weight once again, topping the national polls. Rightly.

Adrian Smith, chairman of Friends of Telford Town Park, said: “This is great news and a reflection on everyone involved with the town park. It’s nice to be involved in keeping the city park clean and tidy. Everyone must contribute to maintaining the high standard of the city park.”

Shaun Rhodes, Operational Delivery Manager at idverde, said: “As a service provider to Telford and Wrekin Council, this is a great result for idverde.

“The team works hard seven days a week. In addition to cleaning, they maintain open spaces, shrub and flower boundaries, and inspect the playground daily. All of this makes the park clean, well-maintained and safe for all users.”
