A Semmes man faces assault charges for allegedly pepper spraying and shooting another man

SEMMES, Ala. (WALA) – A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Dec. 5 for a Semmes man charged with assault after Tuesday’s shooting that injured another man.

Turon Rashad McNutt, 59, was booked into the Mobile County Metro Jail on Thursday and released later that day, jail records show.

According to Semmes Police Chief Todd Friend, officers responded to Brooklyn Way North and found a man who had been shot in the upper left thigh. According to investigators, the victim went to the residence with his girlfriend, who is McNutt’s stepdaughter.

Authorities said the two men argued as McNutt sat in his vehicle and in the driveway and the victim stood by the driver’s side window. McNutt allegedly pepper-sprayed the victim and then shot him in the leg from inside the vehicle.

The victim was taken to an area hospital for treatment.

Jail records show McNutt faces two counts of first-degree assault.
