MPD: Woman charged with assault following domestic disturbance

According to the Mooresville Police Department, a Charlotte woman is facing several charges in connection with a domestic violence incident that resulted in multiple gunshots being discharged.

MPD announced the arrest of 40-year-old Kristy Charrisse Oates in a news release.

Officers received a report of a domestic disturbance during which multiple shots were fired on Thursday around 6:19 p.m.

According to the press release, officers spoke with the uninjured victim, who reported that Oates attacked her with a baseball bat and then she attacked him with a firearm. Police said multiple shell casings were found at the scene and the vehicle Oates used to flee the scene was located outside her home.

Officers who arrived at the scene surrounded the area around the residence and activated the Special Response Unit, crisis negotiators and the Criminal Investigations Department to assist.

Police said after negotiators contacted Oates by phone, she left the residence and was taken into custody at 8:23 p.m. According to a press release, a search warrant was executed at the residence and detectives located the firearm and bat used in the robbery.

Oates was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, misdemeanor assault with a deadly weapon, misdemeanor count of discharging a firearm within city limits, misdemeanor count of uttering threats and felony possession of a schedule II substance.

Oates was transported to the Iredell County Detention Center. The judge ordered her held without bail.
