A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after one man was killed and another seriously injured in a shooting in Birmingham.

Police were called to Rotton Park Road in Edgbaston just before 11pm on Friday after reports that two people had been shot.

Another man in his 30s was found injured at a bus stop and taken to hospital, where his condition is critical, the force added.

Just before 12:30 p.m., fire brigade officers arrested a 30-year-old man on suspicion of murder. He remains in custody.

Officers remain on site and roads are closed. Police said there would also be calming patrols.

Detective Inspector Nick Barnes said: “This is a tragic incident and we have been working throughout the night to understand exactly what happened.

“We have already made good progress and have arrested the suspect, but I still need to hear from everyone who was in the area and whom we have not yet spoken to.

“The incident occurred near the busy junction with City Road and you may have dashcam or mobile phone footage of the area just before 11pm.

“We really need to hear from you so we can build as clear a picture as possible of what happened.”
