A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after one man was killed and another seriously injured in a shooting in Birmingham.

Police were called to Rotton Park Road, near the junction with City Road in Edgbaston, just before 11pm on Friday after receiving reports that two people had been shot.

West Midlands Police said a 20-year-old man was found in the car but was pronounced dead at the scene.

His family has been informed and officers are providing support.

Another man in his 30s was found injured at a bus stop and taken to hospital, where his condition is critical, the force added.

Fire enforcement officers arrested a man in his 30s on suspicion of murder in nearby Waterloo Road just before 12.30pm. He remains in custody.

West Midlands Police said officers remained at the scene with roads closed. Calming patrols will also be carried out.

Detective Inspector Nick Barnes, of Homicide, said: “This is a tragic incident and we have been working throughout the night to understand exactly what happened.

“We have already made good progress and have arrested the suspect, but I still need to hear from everyone who was in the area and whom we have not yet spoken to.

“The incident occurred near the busy junction with City Road and you may have dashcam or mobile phone footage of the area just before 11pm.

“We really need to hear from you so we can build as clear a picture as possible of what happened.”
