A man was killed and 12 people injured in two road accidents in Mohali

Two separate road accidents took place in Mohali district in the last 24 hours, leaving a man dead and 12 people injured.

The first mishap was a hit and run in which a speeding car claimed the life of a 30-year-old motorcyclist near Basauli village, Handesra in Dera Bassi.

The deceased, Gurdip Singh of Lalru, was returning home after dropping off a friend at Handesra around 10.15 p.m., when a speeding car bearing Haryana number hit him and drove away. Onlookers rushed him to Dera Bassi Civil Hospital, but doctors pronounced him dead.

Handesra police identified the driver of the car as Bunty from Kurukshetra. He was booked under sections 281 (dangerous driving) and 106 (causing death by negligence) of the BNS.

The second accident occurred on Airport Road, Mohali Towers junction in Industrial Area, Phase 8-B, on Saturday early morning when a Tempo traveler tried to cross the road without slowing down, leading to a collision with a taxi.

Police said the pace of transportation of Nepali workers and seven children from Manali to Nepal was the same. As he was approaching Mohali Towers intersection around 4.30 am, the driver failed to slow down and hit a Maruti Suzuki Ertiga.

As a result of the accident, the taxi driver and 11 passengers were injured. The taxi driver was on his way to Shahi Majra to pick up employees of a private company in Phase 8-B.

After viewers informed the police, the victims were taken to a local civil hospital where they were discharged after receiving first aid. Meanwhile, the driver of the Tempo Traveler fled the scene.
