Hezbollah arrested over 200 espionage suspects – report

Lebanese newspaper Al-Akhbaridentified with Hezbollah, announced on Sunday that he had been detained in the Dahieh district of Beirut since the beginning of September last year on espionage charges.

According to reports, those detained also include foreigners, and all suspects were handed over to the Lebanese State Security Forces.

According to the report, some additional detainees were arrested in connection with drug trafficking or burglaries they committed in the homes of residents who had fled their homes. The detainees were identified as Lebanese, Syrians and citizens of other nationalities such as Americans, French and Brazilians.

One of the US citizens previously worked as a US police officer and was visiting the Dahieh district with a Lebanese citizen. During interrogation, he said that he had come to document his war travels. Another French citizen was detained while filming, claiming to be a journalist – after checking his mobile phone, it turned out that he had filmed several buildings in Dahieh.

The report also stated that more than 50 Syrians were arrested, some of whom were linked to opposition organizations in their country and used their foreign citizenship to land in Beirut and photograph Hezbollah-linked buildings in Dahieh.
