Murder mystery: 28-year-old found dead on railway tracks in Punpun | Patna News

Patna: The body of a 28-year-old man with a strangulation mark on his neck was found on the railway tracks near the old Patna-Gaya-Dobhi marg at Punpun in Patna district on Sunday morning.
Apart from strangulation marks, the victim – identified as Santu Kumar, a resident of Itwarpur in Parsa district – had injuries on her head and back. Locals spotted the body near Surya Mandir in Jhaul Bigha around 7 am when they were going to work. After receiving the information, the police reached the spot and sent the body to PMCH for post-mortem.
Kanhaiya Singh, Sub-Divisional Police Officer-II, Masaurhi, said that prima facie, it appears that the youth was strangled to death by unknown assailants and his body was later thrown on the railway tracks. “A forensic team was called in to collect evidence. Police are checking CCTV cameras placed around the railway tracks to identify the accused. The cause of the murder has not yet been established,” he said.
Initially, the victim could not be identified nor was his mobile phone found in his possession, he said, adding: “Kumar was identified when the police posted his photo on social media. After verification, the body was handed over to the family for last rites.” The police have not yet received an application from his family members.”
According to police, Kumar visited his maternal grandmother’s house in Kevada village in Punpun. He went missing on Saturday evening when he left his house to meet someone, Kumar’s family members said.
