Jharkhand BJP leader Sita Soren breaks down after Congress minister’s derogatory remarks

BJP leader Sita Soren broke down on Sunday while talking about derogatory remarks allegedly made against her by Congress minister Irfan Ansari.

Soren, who is contesting the Jharkhand Assembly polls from Jamtara seat, addressed the press a day before filing her nomination papers.

Ansari, a Congressional candidate for the position, allegedly made an offensive remark about Soren after filing his nomination on Thursday.

“Ansari has been attacking me since my candidacy for the position was announced. However, the derogatory remarks he made after submitting his nomination are unacceptable. This is an insult to the women of the tribal community. The tribal community will never forgive him,” she said.

“Since my husband is dead, he (Ansari)…” she said, breaking down.

Sita Soren, wife of JMM chief Shibu Soren’s eldest son Durga Soren, joined the BJP earlier this year after a row with her family over the prime minister’s post after Hemant Soren resigned from the post and was sent to jail in connection with a money laundering case. Hemant Soren is the younger son of Shibu Soren.

When she broke down, BJP Nawada MP Vivek Thakur, who was with her, tried to cope with the situation.

Criticizing the Congress leader’s remarks, he said that the BJP would protest not only in Jamtar but across the state in this regard.

On Saturday, the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST) took note of Ansari’s remarks and issued a notice to the Jharkhand government, asking it to submit a report within three days.
